Q: How do I put a password on my username in Windows XP?

A: Click Start > Settings > Control Panel. Then double click the icon in the control panel for Users, find your username and click on it and then one of the options you will see there will be 'Add Password'. So, click on that to add a password

Q: I am using Windows XP. When I had Windows 98 I used to defrag my computer regularly, but the defrag in Windows XP shows more than one drive and asks me if I want to do all of them. I figure I should say yes to that?

A: Because of the file system that is used by Windows XP, data is stored more efficiently on the hard drive than under Windows 98. Consequently, it gets less fragmented than before and so there is less need to defrag the hard drive with Windows XP. Once or twice a year would be sufficient - and only bother with the C:\ drive, which is the main hard drive.

Q: How do I find out which version of Windows I am using?

A: 1) watch the boot sequence as the computer starts and look at the logo!
2) Click on the Start button and turn your head through 90 degrees to read what it says vertically aligned along the side of the Start Menu
3) Right-click on the 'My Computer' icon and click on 'Properties' and read what it says on the Computer Properties General Tab
4) Click Start > Run and type in winver
